Joanne Tica has advised small businesses and nonprofits for nearly 20 years, including work with Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses. She is an adult educator by training, with a graduate degree in TESOL and doctoral work in Adult and Community Education.

Every TICA system draws on two ideas that share the same starting point. Theory of change, a planning approach used widely by nonprofits, funders, and public agencies, begins with the outcome you want and identifies the conditions that must be in place to reach it. Understanding by Design, a model from instructional design, applies that same result-first thinking to how people learn. Joanne combines the two, so each system helps you solve a specific problem and teaches you a method you can use on the next one.

These systems grew out of real questions from business owners, nonprofit leaders, public officials, and community members. Each one is built to help you reach a result today and approach every future decision with the same clear structure.
